When will the SYEP applications be available?
SYEP registration is online. There are no paper applications available for this program. All interested youth must visit the website to register. The registration form can be accessed from the City of Miami Gardens website at www.miamigardens-fl.gov

How do I qualify for SYEP?
In order for a youth to qualify, they must reside within the city limits of Miami Gardens, be between 15-18 years of age, and eligible to work in the US.

Do I have to pay any fees to apply or work for SYEP?
There are no fees associated with participation in the SYEP.

Yes. If you are submitting an online application, you will be given an opportunity to print out a receipt and a confirmation page.

How will SYEP applicants be selected?
City of Miami Gardens Summer Youth Employment Program will conduct a lottery of completed applications to determine whether applicants can participate.

How does the lottery work?
Applicants submitting a completed application to the City of Miami Gardens Summer Youth Employment Program are placed into a pool for potential selection. The computer system will randomly select completed applications into Summer Youth Employment Program.

How will I know if I am selected to participate in SYEP?
All selected youth through the lottery will be contacted by email only.
To be notified, it is necessary that you provide your correct contact information (address, telephone number, email address).

Besides an SYEP application, what other documentation is required?
If you are selected for a Summer Youth Employment Program position, you will need to also provide copies of documents that will verify the information that you have provided on your application. You can download a list of required documents from the City of Miami Gardens website. To find the list, you can go back to the ‘Summer Youth Employment Program Documents’ menu to access it.

How much does SYEP pay?
Participants will earn $ 13.88 an hour and may work up to 40 hours per week. (Not working more than 140 hours per program).

How will I be paid?
Summer Youth Employment Program participants are paid every two weeks.

What will my work week consist of?
Your summer job hours will consist of a combination of instructional and work hours. The actual work schedule will be developed and provided by the worksite to which you are assigned.

Can I work on weekends?
Work on weekends is permitted but it is up to your job assignment and the worksite. Your total hours for the Summer Youth Employment Program cannot exceed 40 hours per week.

Can I work overtime?
No. Summer Youth Employment Program will not pay for overtime. If you are asked by the worksite to work overtime, you must inform your Summer Youth Employment Program’s case manager immediately.

Can I attend summer school and also participate in SYEP?
Yes. However, this is up to your Summer Youth Employment Program worksite and whether they can arrange a schedule that accommodates both work and school.

What type of summer jobs are available?
The Summer Youth Employment Program has traditionally offered jobs as clerical, hospital, camp, cultural arts, teacher aides in government and nonprofit agencies. The Summer Youth Employment Program providers may also provide jobs in private, for-profit companies in a variety of industries.

No. The Summer Youth Employment Program does not offer jobs out of Miami Gardens.
